Keep Our Light Shining

February 18, 2014

This past Sunday was the first Sunday in our transition period without a settled (permanent) Pastor.  Friends and family said good bye to Pastor Alan Akana in our worship service and farewell party afterwards on February 9.   We were fortunate this last Sunday to have the Rev. Carol Barriger as our guest minister.  She will also be with us next week (Feb. 23).   On March 2 and March 9 our guest minister will be the Rev. Al Williams. We are pleased the Rev. Williams can be with us since we enjoyed his being our guest minister in the past when Pastor Alan was on vacation.

The Executive Board is actively seeking a new Interim Pastor.   Be sure to check this Constant Contact eNews to follow our progress. This will be our line of communication about the Interim search and other ongoing activities of IUC since we no longer publish a printed newsletter.

In another endeavor, the Executive Board has asked the Sunday School Department and Preschool Advisory Committee to undertake research and write a Safe Church Policy.  A Safe Church Policy will guide in providing an atmosphere that balances safety with radical hospitality and respect. These guidelines will provide a safer environment for our congregation, children, caregivers and volunteers.  You will be hearing more about the policy at the Congregational Meeting in April. At that meeting we will also elect officers for Vice President and Treasurer and pass a budget for the new fiscal year ending June 30, 2015  (After a successful pledge drive, of course!).

The New Beginnings Capital Campaign Steering Committee will be meeting after the service this coming Sunday.  Paul Bade, Chair, will present the latest information about replacing the overhead lights and ceiling.

Blessings,
Lee Lamkin, President
